In this hands-on workshop , Walter will introduce some selected exotic woods available on the American market.

Using veneers and sawdust, participants will examine the anatomy differences in these species. Some chemical tests will also be performed on these materials and on some gum resin test papers.

Samples belong to the participants.

Bio Sketch
Walter Rantanen has a B.S, in Wood Products Engineering with aspecialization in Wood Anatomy from the S.U.N.Y. College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse.

He also has extensive experience in testing and analysis of various types of samples for the paper industry, both at the Institute of Paper Chemistry and Integrated Paper Services.

Walter is presently Group Leader Fiber Science at IPS.
