Annual Picnic
York Woods (South) Forest Preserve
Minutes of June 11, 2005 Meeting
Annual Outing
Better weather could hardly have been asked for on June 11, the date of the SMSI’s Annual Picnic, which took place at York Woods (South) Forest Preserve in Oakbrook.
The day presented a perfect opportunity for members, family, and friends to get together in an informal setting to enjoy each other’s company, as well as good food. Typical picnic activities were enjoyed, with a “microscopical” emphasis. A Polarizing Microscope was even exhibited, (a model currently being considered for use in the Society’s Young People’s Courses.)
Among the variety of foods served included fresh figs, bratwurst, marinated chicken breasts, hamburgers, Yakatori, salads, chips, and a variety of sweets.
The setting of the cooking fire was accomplished by President Bill Mikuska, with the help of gun cotton and a magnifying glass, while the actual cooking was done by Mike Whiteside and Yours Truly.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert Kuksuk
Recording Secretary
