Some optically dense substances will transmit light if made sufficiently thin. Such materials include rocks, some minerals, stony meteorites and cement. Mr. Ahmed will discuss the methods and machines for making thin sections. A limit of 20 SMSI participants will enable good viewing of techniques demonstrated in the Buehler Laboratory.
